Jyotish, which means light or lord, is the study of the divine and expressing it through time and space. It is the existing form of ancient astrology and is still rampant in India. It is known as the Eye of the Veda for its ability to see the future. It is a process of drawing a parallel between people’s inner qualities and ways of life and the time and places of their births, through the relative positions of different heavenly bodies to one another. The origin of Jyotish can be traced back to the 3rd millennium BC, but it’s still very much in vogue and most people prefer to consult it before taking any important decision. There is a popular tradition among the Hindus to keep the name of the newborn on the basis of their Jyotish chart. Besides, Jyotish concepts are hugely in use in the organizations of calendars and holidays as well as in many other areas of life and science. Jyotish is also known for providing solutions for the problems detected by the Horoscope or astrological charts of people.
Earlier on the Hindu Brahmins used to practice Jyotish, but in recent time India has seen a renaissance in the field of studying Jyotish and other Vedic sciences. The Indian universities are planning to begin sponsor courses on this science. The study of Jyotish is known to be timeless and universal in nature. It primarily deals with the influence of the stars and planets on human beings. Jyotish decodes the fundamental rules of the Nature and looks for conveying to mankind a technique which smoothes their approach to life in association with Nature. By doing that it increases the opportunities for betterment and decrease suffering.
Jyotish Shastra is an important part of Vedanta and is known as Vedic astrology. It is based on what Western astrologers call the whole house system and recognizes nine grahas which means heavenly bodies or planets. The nine planets are: Surya or Sun, Chandra or Moon, Mangala or Mars, Budha or Mercury, Guru or Jupiter, Sukra or Venus, Sanaiscarya (Sani) or Saturn, Rahu or Ascenting/North Lunar Node and Ketu or Decending/South Lunar Node. However, there is a fundamental difference in the measurement of the Zodiac in the Jyotish Shastra and in the Western astrology. Jyotish recognizes the sidereal Zodiac (the stars are believed to be the fixed background against which the motion of the planet is measured), while the Western astrologers uses the tropical zodiac (the movement of the planets is measured against the position of the sun on the Spring Equinox.).

Judging professions through Indian horoscope
The tenth house in an Indian horoscope or astrological chart indicates professions/Vocations/Occupations of a native. This indian horoscope chart also denotes position and prestige and the honour which one holds in society. A well placed tenth house is an indication that the person would be successful in his/her life. The nature of profession would depend upon not only on the strength of the ascendant, the Sun and the Moon. Another important factor which must be considered is if mercury is well placed, the person would belong to a learned profession, since mercury is the lord of intelligence and wisdom. If mercury and Moon are the weak in a Vedic horoscope chart, the native will not be firm in decision making and may not be suitable for jobs involving higher responsibility and critical analysis. If the lord of tenth house of online/vedic horoscope chart is placed in 6, 8, and 12th houses, the person’s professional career would be subjected to vagaries of fortune, unless he takes to religion and the occult. If there is no planet posited in tenth house of a Vedic horoscope chart then Navamsha chart will indicate the vocation of a person.
Persons with sun placed in the tenth house or if the sun is exalted in the horoscope chart will be favoured to hold high government position. They could also be legal luminaries, Judges, lawyers and other belongings to Government or semi-government organizations. If Moon or Mercury receives the aspect of Saturn or Rahu, the person’s path will be set with difficulties. A strong or well placed Saturn in the tenth house of a horoscope chart is a very favourable for the person’s career. The Sun in the tenth house in a horoscope chart is also favourable for the person’s career which will be smooth. If there are too many malefic planets are posited in the tenth house of a horoscope chart then it is explained by vedic astrologers that the person may experience series of set backs in his/her professional and business career.Rahu in the tenth house of horoscope chart will favour the native to acquire affluence and he/she will travel widely for the purpose of business or profession. If the tenth house lord is placed in the twelfth house, the native may work in a foreign country. The ruling planets at any particular time of a native’s life would indicate the direction in which the travels will favour the native. If a business man wants to decide about his business, and is governed at a particular time by the operative period of the planet Sun and if The Sun is well placed in horoscope chart, then the person would be benefit if he enters into business relations with countries in the east. The Vedic planets have sway over various directions to decide career of a person. The tenth and eleventh houses of horoscope are connected with professional matters; business etc. still the whole horoscope must be analyzed scientifically before a Vedic or Indian astrologer passes his judgement on it.
The Sun is connected with Government jobs, semi government organization, state government jobs, law and judiciary, even where the individuals with a powerful sun in the tenth house are not in the employment of government, they will still be interacting with government in several ways, they may be either government contractors or commission agents, directly dealing with government or state agencies. If the Sun is placed with the lord of Ascendant, it indicates political career, but if The Sun is placed in his enemy’s house, the individual must guard the advantages intelligently. But yet the native will enjoy ample opportunities to hold high position of authority, in the service of the people and the nation. Mobilization of energy and resources will help in the long run-In the case of politician, if Saturn, which is connected with the masses, is combust or debilitated for a greater success, he should be wise enough to counteract the planetary afflictions through remedial solutions or astral remedies, which includes Pooja, Homam and offering alms to the needy and the poor. While the sun is considered as a king in a planetary cabinet, Moon is considered as a queen. These Vedic or astrological Planets are termed as Royal planets.
If Jupiter is placed in the tenth house from the ascendant, it confers lot of wealth, power and respect among highest circles. Persons with prominent or exalted Jupiter in their birth charts would need lot of co-operation and help from one and all and they will pursue occupations or professions which will involve the patronage and good will of others and to acquire success.

Importance of eighth house in Indian astrology
The eighth house of horoscope is referred to as the house of sex. This house delves into relationship-interactions with another and how certain aspects of those interactions can take on a more communal nature. It speaks to what our relationships will bring us and how we can get the most out of them.
Returning to this house’s emphasis on sex, it’s important to note that the French refer to an orgasm ‘le petit mort’ or ‘the little death’. When we reach that exalted state of communication, we live a little of ourselves behind-die a small dealth. One can also choose to view this as growth, a new beginning, the rebirth of the soul or a gain for the partnership. The eighth house of horoscope is an equal opportunity house, placing sex, death and rebirth on the same level playing field and acknowledging the viability and importance of all three. We will all experience death and rebirth as part of our lives; failed relationships leading to new ones, career changes, a new hairstyle. We are generated and reborn with each new phase and should welcome them.
Shared resources also fall within the eighth house: inheritance, alimony, taxes, insurance, and support from another. Financial supports as well as spiritual, emotional and physical support are addressed by this house. While our relationships share many of the aforementioned things, they also have their own dynamics and grow from within.
In keeping with the transforming nature of this house, rituals are highlighted .Every group has its own way of peering in and looking deep into the soul and the past, if only to get a sense of what we truly are. Our legacies are key to this house: how we conduct ourselves now, and how that will play out for all time.
In essence, the eighth house signifies all things hidden; the rectum, serious diseases, concealed wealth, lotteries, knowledge of the hidden laws of nature, gains or losses from market fluctuations, psychological afflictions or mental sufferings which would be unseen to others and even death.-which is in fact the hidden existence of the individual after the close of life. Thus the eighth house of horoscope symbolizes the powers in nature embodied as the Kundilini Shakti.
The eighth house is ruled by the sign Scorpio and the planet Mars.

Importance of Seventh house in Vedic astrology
This is such the house of horoscope that rules the desire for partnership, the attitude towards it, and the needs and functions that marital relationship fulfills. Traditionally this is the house of marriage, although as the institution of marriage becomes less important in western world, its meaning has been broadened to include all intimate emotional relationships, particularly one-to-one relationships. This house also rules close working partnerships.
The seventh house of horoscope is known as the house of wife, groin and the royal citadel. It represents the polarity of the first house. The seventh house is the field of one’s experience. Such activities are confined not only to sexual relationships, but are also linked with the enjoyment of food, the acquisition of beautiful clothes, perfumes and flowers, victory over enemies. From this house astrologer can delineate business partners as well as the decorations and acquisitions of royal favor. Business partnership, social relationships and the expressions of bodily urges are some of the characteristics of this house.
The composite seventh house, like the first, a sign of relationship in which the two people are truly trying to function as a unit. The seventh house of horoscope is the house of intimate one to one encounters. If a chart is on the whole favourable strong seventh house is a good indication that any kind of partnership, including marriage, can survive. A strong and well aspected seventh house is not absolutely necessary for a marriage or business relationship, but it helps. In a strong seventh house relationship, the two people are likely to think of themselves as one, as we and us. It is not simply a matter of enjoying each other’s company, as in a fifth house relationship. They should enjoy each other, but more important is the fact that they complement each other and make a strong whole.
A seventh house relationship that is not well-aspected will still be an intimate encounter, but the people may be enemies or at best competitors. This is because the seventh is also the house of one’s open enemies.
Obviously, strong seventh house can not guarantee a marriage between two people who love each other, but because they will think of themselves as a whole it is quite likely that they will get married or at least live together, happily.
A strong seventh house chart is also favourable to any one-to one relationship in which one person consults the other, such as patient and doctor, patient and psychotherapist, client and astrologer, client and lawyer, or client and any other type of professional.Needless to say, the seventh house must be well aspected in these cases.
The seventh house is ruled by the sign Libra and the Planet Venus.

Importance of sixth house in Vedic astrology
The sixth house on horoscope in Indian astrology is referred to as the house of health. Implicit in maintaining good health is the ability to cope in the face of adversity, and this theme rings truest in the sixth house. As human beings, we naturally have shortcomings. What will we do with them? How will we react in the face of personal crisis? Crises, illness and reversals of fortune are all part of our earthly trek. How we confront these situations and deal with the lessons they invariably teach us helps to define the person we become.
The sixth house of horoscope represents the struggle-experience of the soul during its sojourn. As it proceeds on its material path, the soul meets with resistence. The nature of this opposing force is also an aspect of the eternal component of existence. Thus the six house shows struggle, difficulties, opposition of various kinds, litigation and servitude. This house represents fear, difficulties, enemies, ill health, debt and fear of death. Essentially it is the house of difficulties.
Our fears may hold us back, but we can meet them head on and come out stronger on the otherside, we may learn the valuable lesson of service or what our life’s work should be. Work and service are central to the sixth house. The focus here is on employment (employers and employee), training, those who serve us (along with those we serve) and those who depend on us. Keeping ourselves strong throughout these efforts is also important here, which is why this house further focuses on health (good and bad), diet, fitness and hygiene.
Essential to the work, we do in life is the work; we do on our self.Duty, responsibility and personal growth all contribute to the creation of a fully-realized being. We work for others as well as for ourselves; we are at service to those who need us, including our own being. There will be times when crises of health or faith will stand in the way of our best self. At those times, we must endeavor to heal ourselves so that we can return to the work of realizing our sum potential, of serving our world.
The sixth house of horoscope also addresses the daily ness of life: what will I wear today? Do I need a haircut? These simple matters keep our engines humming and enable us to do the more important work of our choosing. It’s a patchwork quilt: the ability to serve others in health and through work, which is both valuable and fulfilling.
The sixth house of horoscope is ruled by the sign Virgo and the Planet mercury.

Importance of fourth house in Vedic astrology
The fourth house of horoscope in Vedic astrology commonly referred to as the house of home. When we think of home, we think of that place where we put down our roots. We lay our foundation and plant ourselves firmly into the earth, as it were. One day, we will return to that very same earth. The fourth house brings things full circle by also addressing old age, endings and our final resting place.
Much of the emphasis of the fourth house, however, is on the concept of home. By laying down roots, we make a home for ourselves, or more specifically, the self. It’s worth nothing that in addition to the external home, we have really brought the essential self home. I am home-the words themselves have a peaceful ring to them. The self is nowcentered, grounded, one and at peace with the earth. We seek to come home both physically and psychically, for ourselves and for those we love. By creating home, we create a meeting place, a sanctuary, a sacred place for ourselves and for others.
In our home, we integrate the self with all that has come before us and helped to shape what we are today. We create a domestic space which comforts and nurtures us and serves to keep safe those we love. Also important here are family history, cultural and social norms, and ways of being. All of these are ruled by the fourth house of horoscope, as are our ancestry, roots and heritage. These qualities are brought’ home’ through us and integrated into the place we call home.
Helping to create the home we make are our parents, for it is they who greatly nurture and shape our being.Therfore, the fourth house of horoscope can also be thought of as the house of the mother, the parent or the nurturer.
Looking at things from a strictly tangible point of view, we can see that the fourth house of horoscope also encompasses physical structures (houses) and real state. The fourth house of horoscope represents family, history and traditions. All of these contribute to the process of becoming a true, actualized and individualized self. This is how we come home. In exoteric astrology, the fourth house stands for home, private life, transport facilities, landed property, mother, and diseases of the chest and peace of mind.
The fourth house of horoscope in Vedic Indian astrology is ruled by the sign Cancer and the planet Moon.
