Jyotish- Illuminating the Future of mankind

Jyotish, which means light or lord, is the study of the divine and expressing it through time and space. It is the existing form of ancient astrology and is still rampant in India. It is known as the Eye of the Veda for its ability to see the future. It is a process of drawing a parallel between people’s inner qualities and ways of life and the time and places of their births, through the relative positions of different heavenly bodies to one another. The origin of Jyotish can be traced back to the 3rd millennium BC, but it’s still very much in vogue and most people prefer to consult it before taking any important decision. There is a popular tradition among the Hindus to keep the name of the newborn on the basis of their Jyotish chart. Besides, Jyotish concepts are hugely in use in the organizations of calendars and holidays as well as in many other areas of life and science. Jyotish is also known for providing solutions for the problems detected by the Horoscope or astrological charts of people.
Earlier on the Hindu Brahmins used to practice Jyotish, but in recent time India has seen a renaissance in the field of studying Jyotish and other Vedic sciences. The Indian universities are planning to begin sponsor courses on this science. The study of Jyotish is known to be timeless and universal in nature. It primarily deals with the influence of the stars and planets on human beings. Jyotish decodes the fundamental rules of the Nature and looks for conveying to mankind a technique which smoothes their approach to life in association with Nature. By doing that it increases the opportunities for betterment and decrease suffering.
Jyotish Shastra is an important part of Vedanta and is known as Vedic astrology. It is based on what Western astrologers call the whole house system and recognizes nine grahas which means heavenly bodies or planets. The nine planets are: Surya or Sun, Chandra or Moon, Mangala or Mars, Budha or Mercury, Guru or Jupiter, Sukra or Venus, Sanaiscarya (Sani) or Saturn, Rahu or Ascenting/North Lunar Node and Ketu or Decending/South Lunar Node. However, there is a fundamental difference in the measurement of the Zodiac in the Jyotish Shastra and in the Western astrology. Jyotish recognizes the sidereal Zodiac (the stars are believed to be the fixed background against which the motion of the planet is measured), while the Western astrologers uses the tropical zodiac (the movement of the planets is measured against the position of the sun on the Spring Equinox.).

Horoscope- The Eternal Match Maker

Horoscope is an astrological chart that maps the position of nine planets across a number of houses representing the solar system, in a graphical pattern. It’s a well known part of Indian astrology and is believed to that the astrological charts can identify and predict the character and fate of a person. The Indian astrologers believe that the horoscope exerts an important influence on human life. That is why the matching of horoscope is very popular and widely practiced in Indian matrimony. Birth horoscopes are compared once a marriage is fixed in order to find if the two people are compatible. It’s an ancient Vedic practice to match the astrological charts of two people. The matching process is done in eight spheres of life. The charts are made on the basis of the full name of the concerned persons and the date, time and place of their birth. Earlier the Indian marriages were finalized only after the matching of horoscopes of the bride and groom.
In order to prepare a perfect chart, one should provide with the exact date, time and place of birth, as even a small error can vastly influence the interpretation of the horoscope. Today there are many online service providers to can prepare your horoscope online. But often there are differences in interpretations by different service providers. The general trend is to consult a Vedic astrologer in order to get a proper interpretation of a horoscope, though the interpretation of different astrologers too can vary. Horoscopes are mostly used to find out the positive and negative characters of a person. Almost every religion has the tradition of matching astrological charts, though the technique differs from one religion to another. However, the most iniquitous attribute across all religion is the Manglik Dasha, which occurs when Mars is placed in 1st, 4th, 7th, 8th or 12th house. These houses stand for the happiness, mental peace, marriage, longevity and expenditure. In spite of having a diverse cultural mosaic, the astrologers across India believes in the ill effect of Manglik Dasha. If a marriage occurs with one of the partners having Manglik Dasha, this could mean devastation in their married life as there would ensue constant quarrel, divorce and even death of spouse. But there is a solution to this problem- Performing puja, making the Manglik wear a coral or getting him/her married to a tree to absorb the aggression, are some of them.

Vedic Horoscope- The scientific way to know destiny

There is a natural instinct in man to know the unknown, and that instinct has been the driving factor of all creations including the science of Vedic Horoscope. It is believed that Maharishi Parashara has given the Vedic Horoscope its present written form. It is an important branch of Indian astrology and is the most trusted one too. By it the personality and true nature of a person is determined in respect with the planetary positions at the exact moment of birth. Mainly used for predicting the future of a man, the Vedic horoscope is an ancient science used for knowing the future and is over 7000 years old. The abrasive meaning of Vedic horoscope is ‘science of light.’ It has become an intrinsic part and practice of the Hindu way of living. The larger aspects of Vedic Horoscope incorporate architecture, mathematics, military and medical know how. Vedic Horoscope believes in distant stars. Vedic Horoscope deals with twenty-seven stars or Nakshatras. The Vedic astrologer interprets the movement of these distant stars to find deep and intense meaning that is reflected in the lives of human beings. The stars are related with Deity’s of difference. Vedic Horoscope deals with twenty-seven lunar archetypes.
Vedic Horoscope helps a person live a conscious, happy and peaceful life. It is practiced by professionals and well respected astrologers in India and all over the world. Vedic Horoscope endorses the customs of balancing, gem stones and mantras as they are believed to assuage the impacts that may be detrimental to a healthy life.

Indian Horoscope- The Chart of Time-Space

Indian Horoscope is a map of space and time- an “image of the hour.” It is basically a chart of the positions of the sun, moon and the planets in space at a particular time and place on earth. It is like an image of a particular place in respect to time and space. If that particular time or place indicates the birth time and place of an individual then the horoscope will be termed as “natal horoscope” or “natal chart” or “birth chart”. The natal horoscope differs from people to people as the planets are constantly on the move. Astrological analysis of a man starts with his horoscope that requires exact date, time and place of his birth. The technical meaning of a horoscope is close to that of a pack of medicine. In any pack of medicines we will find-
-manufacturing date
-expiry date
-batch number
-composition
-indication
-contra-indication
Similar to that the Indian horoscope carries a stamp from Nature and contains
-date of birth
-time of birth
-place of birth
For preparing an Indian horoscope the astrologer will need astronomical data that will provide him with the exact positions of the planets on their respective orbit of movement at the time of birth of the concerned person. The place of birth of a person helps in determining the geographical latitude and longitude and calculating their differences from the celestial latitude and longitude. The main objective of studying astrology is judge a horoscope accurately. The Indian horoscope helps an astrologer understand the psychophysical nature of individuals and can predict his latent potential, role in life, health, wealth, friends and foes, ups and downs, life span, diseases, kinds of difficulties one can face in life, nature of relationship that one will share with his parents, siblings, partner and peers.
Since time immemorial the application of Indian horoscope is rampant in the country. Be it birth, death or marriage, horoscope is an integral part of every event in India. But it’s most popular in the Indian marriages. In case of arranged marriage in India once the marriage is finalized, the elders of both the family exchange the horoscope of the would-be groom and bride and consult an astrologer to find out the compatibility between the two. The two things that are given utmost importance while considering the horoscopes of brides and grooms are the graha and the dasha, as without the compatibility of these two no marriage can be successful, believes the Indian astrologers.

Vedic Astrology- Most Popular Astrology

The most popular among the sciences of Indian astrology is the Vedic astrology. In India it is known by the name Jyotish and deals with the sidereal positions of the planet. There is a basic difference in the technique of calculation in Vedic astrology and that of Western astrology. The zodiac of the Weatern astrology is based on the equinoxes. According to the Western astrology the position of planets changes with respect to the stars. Vedic astrology believes in twelve constellations from the Babylonian, and also has an additional “lunar” zodiac based on 28 lunar constellations or Nakshatras. The twenty eight Nakshatras are- Ashwini, Mrigshirsha, Ashlesha, Hasta, Anuradha, Uttarashadha, Poorvabhadrapada, Bharani, Ardra, Magha, Chitra, Jyeshtha, Shravana, Uttarabhadrapada, Krittika, Punarvasu, Purvaphalguni, Swati, Moola, Dhanishtha, Revati, Rohini, Pushya, Uttarphalguni, Vishakha, Purvashadha, Shatbhisha and Abhijit.
Since the ages of Veda, Vedic astrology is considered to be a noble science and dates back to 4000 years. The maharishis of the Vedic era founded, investigated and developed this science of astrology. Among the contributors the names of Aryabhatta, Parashar, Varaha, Mihira, Garga and Kalyan Varma are still remembered and revered. Vedic astrology is based on the following three seminal subjects-

1.) Planets- Vedic astrology recons only nine planets- i.e. Sun, Moon, Jupiter, Venus, Saturn, and teo Shadowy planets Rahu (the dragon’s head) and Ketu (the dragon’s tail).
2.) Stars- the science of Vedic astrology identifies twenty seven constellations from Aswini to Revathy.
3.) Signs- The planets are believed to move under twelve signs of zodiac thus covering the entire sky from Aries to Pisces.

The basic principle of this astrology is the belief that all things are linked. The karma or fortune is determined by a predestined cosmic design. In this science birth is seen as the incarnation of a soul in a body at a specific time and place which is a reflection of the greater whole. Just as different flowers bloom at different time depending on the time that is congenial for them, birth too is dependent on the congenial position of the stars. Vedic Astrology believes in Dashas which are “planetary ruling system” that provide a system to judge the effects of the planets throughout a person's life, by indicating how the planets distribute their effects throughout a lifetime (Wiki Defination). The Dashas endows the Vedic astrologers with a tool for predicting the trends, changes and events in a man’s life with perfection and precision.

Indian Astrology- An Interesting and Useful Science

The history of Indian astrology can be traced back to the Vedic times of 1500 BC. Parts of Atharvaveda deals with traditions of Indian astrology. The influence of planets on human life is the basic mantra of Indian astrology. The ancient saints and sages of India have spent years to study the influence of the planets and formed the science called Indian astrology. It came into being long before the advent of western astrology. This science is interesting, instructive and useful to the moral and material advancement of mankind. Interpreting the planetary movements, Indian astrology foretells the future of individuals, nations or other events. Indian astrology figures out what it envisages about the future of a man as shaped by his previous karma or birth and by the planetary positions at the time of his birth.
There are mainly three branches in Indian astrology, namely-Siddhanta, Samhita and Hora. Siddhantas are those who deal with the astronomical study of heavenly bodies. Samhitas devote themselves in mundane astrology like that of earth quakes, floods, volcanic eruptions, rainfall, whether conditions, economic conditions. The Hora predicts the proper timing of the events in our daily lives. Indian Astrology believes in twenty seven Nakshatras. The movement of the two luminaries Sun and Moon, the five major planets- Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Venus and Mercury and the two nodal points of the Moon i.e. Rahu and Ketu are considered to be of profound importance. The planets like Pluto, Neptune and Uranus are not recognized by Indian astrology as they were discovered much later.
Indian astrology is hugely popular in India for predicting the birth, nature of marriage, compatibility of the bride and groom, career, finances, diseases and also death of people. Day by day Indian astrology is gaining popularity all over the world. The zodiac used by the Indian astrologers and that of the western astrologers different in nature. The popular sciences in Indian astrology are Palmistry, Sade Sati and the Nadi Shastra. Palmistry or Hasta rekha Vigyan is the most popular form of astrology in India. In this form the shapes of the hand and the lines are interpreted by the astrologers in order to understand the nature of a person as well as to predict his future. The Sade Sati deals with an important aspect of reading horoscope. It refers to a time period of seven and half years dominated by the influence of Saturn in human life. Originated about 2000 years ago the Nadi Shastra is a unique form of astrology. In it an individual can read his destiny inscribed on Palm leaves thousands of years ago. It’s an ancient method of recording data.

Significance of Gaj Kesari Yoga in Indian astrology

Literal meaning of Yoga is addition in Vedic or Indian astrology. Astrological yoga is formed by two or more planets in an indian horoscope. There are three types of planets in Indian Vedic astrology which can be considered as functional, malefic and neutral. If there is yoga between two or more benefics. These benefics join hands to do good for the native. This yoga ensures success in undertakings-health, material gains, personality, righteous conduct etc.So a benefic yoga leads great strength to a birth chart.
When the Yoga is between a malefic and a benefic, malefic will spoil the benefic effect of the benefic. It is called Arishta yoga, Arishtha, misfortune in Indian astrology.Arishtha yoga includes worries, miseries, troubles, and discords etc.Arishta removes the vitality of any horoscope. Natural benefic and malefic planets are also taken into consideration for information of yoga or Arishtas.
Even two malefic planets joining or mutually aspecting may spoil or nullify the significance of the house/houses.
One of the most popular yoga in Indian or vedic astrology is Gaj Kesari yoga.Gaj Kesari yoga is commonly understood as “if Jupiter is in kendras from the moon, Gas Kesari yoga is formed.Gaj Kesari yoga assures long life span, high reputation even after death, higher learning, intelligence, passionate and emotional behaviour. Native can address others with wisdom and foresight. Native is able to achieve anything by his/her own velour etc.If will be seen that where Jupiter or the moon or both are functional malefics, the yoga will get modified accordingly and will not confer very good results.
In Indian Vedic astrology, the Moon ascendant has been given equal importance as is given to the ascendant. The reason is that the moon is ruler of mind. It should be taken into consideration that if Jupiter shall conjunct or be in Kendras with the moon or aspect Moon, he shall ward off evils, shall incline the person to religion, learning, righteous conduct etc.Maharshi Parashar is of the view that if Jupiter is in Kendra from the ascendant, it portends similar results. Great Vedic astrologer Maharishi Parashar in his famous work “Brihat Parashar Hora Shastra” has given a sloka on Gaj Kesari Yoga. Should Jupiter be in an angle from the ascendant or from the moon and be conjunct or aspected by a benefic avoiding at the same time debilitation, combustion,an inimical sign, Gaj Kesari yoga is formed.
According to Maharishi Parashar, Kendra position of Jupiter should be seen not only from the moon but also from the ascendant. Another important condition added by Maharishi Parashar is that Jupiter must conjunct or be aspected by a benefic. Aspect of a benefic or conjunction with it shall further strengthen Jupiter. There is no denying the fact that if Jupiter is otherwise strong and not aspected or conjunct by a benefic, he is fully capable of fructifying the yoga. When Jupiter is combust, debilitated or in inimical sign, it is less effective to do good to the native. Other condition which shall be taken into consideration are-
Jupiter must be a functional benefic for the ascendant. So, Great astrologer Maharishi Parashar has ruled out Gaj Kesari yoga for Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Virgi, Libra, Capricorn and Aquarius ascendants.
Jupiter must not be in 6th, 8th, 12th houses.
The Moon Should also be strong. It should be strong, have Paksha bala and should not be debilitated etc.If order to cause fructification of yoga in case yogas is from the Moon. Position of the Moon from the ascendant is also important i.e. the Moon should not be in 6,8,12 houses from the ascendant. It should also be taken into consideration that if Jupiter is in an angle from the ascendant or from the Moon in own sign or exaltation, the combination shall be called by the name of Hamsa yoga (One of the Panch Mahapurusha Yoga).

Indian astrology and Vedic Mantra

Whatever is fated is controlled by planets. This is the underlying principle of Vedic astrology. The growth of a person, his downfall, existence or destruction of the world that all is solely influenced by the planets. It is said that Lord Brahma (Supreme father) has given boon to the planets and recommended their worship when they are turning inauspicious for the native or for the humankind.
Study of heavenly bodies has three branches known as Sidhanta, Sanhita and Hora.It is further divided in two sections which are known as Astronomy and astrology. The scientific study of matter in outer space, especially the positions, dimensions, distribution, motion, composition, energy and evolution of celestial bodies and phenomena is known as astronomy and the study of the positions and aspects of celestial bodies in the belief that they have an influence on the course of natural earthly occurrences and human affairs is known as astrology. Vedic astrology could be further divided in two sub-sections natal astrology (native) and natural astrology (mundane astrology.
Indian or Vedic astrology is divided in sections and sub sections, mantras too are having their significance in the same manner. The mantra could be undertaken for the benefit of the individual or for the humankind. If the astrologer predicts that there would be no rain then it would affect all the people, not the individual one, then for this purpose, mantra practice for pleasing lord Indra would be undertaken but if some one is facing litigations then he has to undertake the Baglamukhi Yagya for himself. So while practice the Mantras this thing should always be kept in mind.
As it is said that planets are considered supreme among the divine Gods, we would not ignore the very existence of our deities as they are par with the planets or blessed by the planets for the purpose of their propitiation. For the purpose of propitiation, the native must have enough knowledge of his deity of worship which could be located with the help of the Indian astrology.
Every Hindu has full faith in the existence of god and the worship him any form. According to Hindu belief, there are thirty three crores deities. Vedic classics say that there are different reasons for sufferings of a person; it could be curses of elders, preceptors, Brahmins or anger of Gods or Goddess. The fury of serpent god, dissatisfaction evil acts directed by the enemies and other afflictions, ghost and demons etc., form the suffering of a person. Now it becomes very hard for the devotee as to which God or Goddess he/she should worship through whom he could reap best of the results and make the suffering subdued or ineffective. Here we take help of Vedic astrology and mantras are interred related.
In the Indian horoscope, fifth house is considered for intellect and ninth house is considered for religiosity. Fifth house of Indian horoscope gives idea about the nature whereas ninth house gives idea about the deity. It is believed that through the Indian horoscope chart it could also be judged in what type of Mantra practice the native would be successful. We Vedic astrologers are quoting some of the salient points, as mentioned in the Vedic classics, related to mantra practice and their links with Vedic astrology.

v Exalted Sun with the lord of ascendant makes devotee perfect mantra practitioner.
v If benefic planets (Moon, Mercury, Jupiter and Venus) are posited in 5th house of Indian horoscope chart and the lord of the 5th house is a benefic planet then the practitioner would be pious. He would undertake the mantra practice without any aim and he would be of philosophical attitude.
v If 5th house is conjoined with malefic planets like Rahu and Ketu then the devotee must be worshipping to master the witchcraft and other such type of practice.
v If the Indian horoscope charts when Jupiter, mars and Mercury are conjoining or aspecting each other then that person would achieve success in the mantra practice.
v If someone wants to master the mantra practice rather than the Tantra practice then he should check whether all his planets are posited between Moon and Jupiter.
v If Sun is well placed in the Indian horoscope chart then the devotee should worship Shakti.
v If the lord of ninth house is Jupiter or posited with Venus then the devotee would certainly achieve good results in mantra practice.
v If the lord of fifth house of Indian horoscope is a malefic planets are posited in fifth house then such native would be undertaking worship for material gains or some evil deeds. He would certainly follow the rituals but he must be having some planning in his mind.
v If the benefic planets are posited in Kendra houses or angle houses then the efforts rendered by the devotee for mantra practice would not go in vain.
v Lord of tenth house is linked with Venus or Moon, by aspect or position, and then such person becomes successful in mantra practice with the help of others.
v Lord of the tenth house is posited in its house then the devotee believes in form worship.
v If Moon is well placed in the Indian horoscope chart the native can achieve success in six rites worship.
v Rahu in eighth house makes the practitioner a good Tantra practitioner but such person lives in low profile.
v Saturn in ninth house makes the devotee a saint and if Saturn is in its zodiac then the devotee is world famous saint.
v Shiva worship is fruitful when a mar is posited in ninth house or aspecting ninth house.
Macrocosm and microcosm are the two poles of the same energy principle; Indian seers evolved a technique which could connect the two through one medium. They called it mantra. Mantra is the first principle which works in accordance with the cosmic energy in ether. The Sanskrit word for contemplation is Manana and the tool or medium for Manana is mantra and Mantra has been integral part of Vedic astrology since time immemorial. So, Vedic astrology and Mantras has special connotation with each other. One can’t proceed further without each one.So; Vedic mantra is an integral part of vedic astrology.
